Ever heard of Attention Economy? Your Attention is what Drives the Economy, regardless of what Sector you’re looking at. As soon as you look, you already lose. Here’s a deep dive
CHapter 1: LOOK LOOK! IMPORTANT! READ THIS! WOWOWOW!!!
No, it isn’t. But you’re supposed to believe it is, so hat you give your time and attention to it, invest yourself in it, with your time, emotions, money, and so on. It’s a mere trick. Do you know how the Shaitan whispers to you to care about this and that, but they’re all mere distractions? This is the Information Age equivalent of this. Things trying to get your attention in order to keep you away from doing what really matters – self improvement and following the righteous path. If it affects you, you will hear about it either way. If it doesn’t, you don’t need to hear about it.
CHapter 2: Value your time
Your attention is valuable. Your time is valuable. You are valuable. Value yourself, your time, and chose wisely what you give your attention to. And remember, whatever you give your attention to grows from it, and you are partially responsible for it. Give it to things which you want to see grow.
Originally I wanted to continue by writing about word magic, but I think it’s better to put this into another post. Be honest. When you see some thumbnail and news, and you watch it, you probably were disappointed by what you then actually saw or heard. I think in a week you won’t even remember that you watched it. So why did you click on it? I think its a whisper, giving you an excuse for doing something unproductive under the guise that it’s important news and might impact you. So what if product xyz is going up? Should you be upset because something will be more expensive for 5% of the population? Prices change all the time. But you do not even notice it, unless there is attention drawn to it – Attention Economy
Chapter 3: It’s a widespread issue
Confession time, I’m not free from this, I did it too, I know the feeling, but I’m at the point where I am so disappointed with everything, and luckily now able to write things myself instead, that I do not need to take these things in anymore. I myself justify it with “I need to stay in touch with technology and economy”, which to some extent is true. However, Most things don’t matter, and the things which do matter, I sometimes miss by months, and it’s fine. Chasing news updates on tech products is a form of idolisation and overvaluing of this technology. It’s the whisper that the right technology will change your life for the better. No it won’t. It didn’t exist before and it was fine. It existing won’t make a difference either. Change is slow and incremental, and many times not even beneficial to begin with. It’s relieving to let go of all of this.
Chapter 4: Breaking patterns
Going to Whatever Website you frequent and browsing for news, searching for something that you can justify wasting your time on. It starts with you going to such a Website. Back in Grandpa’s days it would be opening the Newspaper to load yourself up with whatever someone wanted you to hear, today it might be opening [generic website]. The effect is the same, it’s been around for who knows how long, and it probably won’t go away any time soon either. The way to be out is by breaking the patterns that lead to this to begin with. Don’t get me wrong. It’s good to get information. But the key is to get it actively. To be faced with a problem and actively searching for information, as opposed to taking in whatever is currently presented and available, regardless of if it is in any way relevant to your current situation or problems.
Chapter 5: Is this blog a part of this as well?
Yes and no. When I first conceptualized this Blog, I wanted to be a one stop replacement for all of the relevant information out there. A way to replace all of the other things. If it’s important, it’ll be on here. If it isn’t here, it’s not important on a general level. (I of course can not cover local news that might affect you, but you will probably hear about those from local sources like, well.. your direct surrounding!). I still like this idea, but even that would be too much effort given how much things there are out there. Instead, this is supposed to be timeless. So while it will hopefully get regular updates and new posts, it’s more like a timeless collection of Ideas and Inspirations.
COnslusion
I hope that you will take something away from this. Maybe the next time that you see a video about the newestest news, you’ll pause for a moment, and then give it a pass. Maybe you won’t even go to your generic news sources to begin with anymore. Maybe the ten minutes which you might’ve just spent reading and thinking about this post can save you many many hours in your future, and give you head space to focus on what’s actually important in life.
